Sadly, Tuk has passed away. He died July 3, 2011, and was 12 years old. He is watching over Shelly and Casey and the rest of the pack, and is running free now. It breaks my heart, as I felt I had a special bond with him. Hopefully, Maya won't be too lonely without him. I fear she too, will pass soon as well. You're in our hearts Tuk, we'll never forget you.

Every favorite, and every comment help keep his memory alive. If any of you have gone on a wolf walk with him, I hope you will be able to keep his memory alive through your experience and through your own photos.

*edit* I've joined 50+ groups since I started to get this picture out, and so many people have invited me into new groups that I feel honored. If you have a group of any size, and would like this photo in your group, feel free to do so. I would love to join any group, and get my pictures out there.

I will be going down to see Shelly and Casey in a while, to pay my respects, and to meet Moki and Mack, the two new pups. Their page is here- [link]
I will hopefully get to go on a walk with Maya again before she too, passes away.

You can help support Shelly and Casey Black by visiting their site here- [link]

This picture just reaches out to me! It's very original, giving it the impression of how wolves look in their natural state, which blows me away. The color quality in this photo is fantastic, luring people in to see this magnificent animal. With the wolf (<3) looking to his left, and with the great quality, you can really see all the details. This photo was taken at the perfect time, showing how beautiful, and respected wolves are. Very nicely done. I love how this creature's expression shows curiosity. Everything about this photo is beautiful, including the background. The nature in the background shows how free-spirited wolves are. I very much respect this picture, and the wolf in it. Plus, look at the fur and eyes, and how the compliment each other. It just adds more pizzazz, making me love it even more. :)

I must say that I have had this experience also. Growing close to one of these beautiful creatures and then losing them is awful! I sat here and cried & cried over wolves I've known on a personal basis and "walked" with. My sincerest condolences on the loss of Tuk. He is beautiful!!!! I knew a Maya also, but sadly she passed away quite suddenly and unexpectedly several years ago. I still love her brother, Tristan, who is now up in age also.

Thank you for your words. I am still heartbroken over them, but the kind words and stories of others helps ease the pain.

At the Northern Lights Wolf Center in Golden, BC, Canada. I go there every years and know the owners, so we're like family.

They really are. It's a shame more people don't have access to the centers or programs like that

I agree! I've found that through our photography we can help educate people about such places and help them know at least where they can go to have experiences like we've had. I hope it helps someone.

I actually don't own any wolves. All of the wolves in my Gallery belong to Shelly and Casey Black who run the Northern Lights Wolf Center in Golden, BC. Jun is a Czechoslovakian wolfdog which is actually a breed of dog :)

we are sad everytime we know we cant share a moment with someone we love anymore, but ifwe have hope that there is something beyond there is no reason to be sad... it is just the natural order of this life...
some people talks about 2012 and prophecies and meteorites ,but there is a prohecy I rather like to believe:
"And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. 25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD. "

Tuk was part of the pack at the Northern Lights Wolf Center in Golden, BC. I am a friend of the couple who owns the place, and you can go on walks with the wolves there. No leashes, collars, chains, fences. Nothing between you and the wolves. I went on quite a few walks with Tuk, and became very close with him. I've been going there since I was 11 or so, and I know all the wolves well, but Tuk had a special place in my heart. You can see the site on the link I put up in my comments.

I'd like to think so. Every time I went on a walk with him, he became friendlier and got closer and closer to me. Last year, I was getting my picture taken with him. I was sitting down with him behind me, and he came up and licked my ear. Casey and Shelly's jaws dropped, they said they've never seen him do that once in his life. He was the most skittish and shy wolf in the pack, and for me to see him every year, I thought we had a bond, because he never acted skittish around me and would let me get right up to him.

I'd like to think that, but it could all be in my head. Either way, I loved him for the 5 or more years I knew him, and I'll always love him.

I believe that they do remember us. At least I like to believe so. Whenever I go in with the pack, my favorite boys act like they know me and remember me. I choose to believe that they do. That lick was very special. :) I know....

Shelly and Casey Black run the Northern Lights Wolf Center in Golden, BC. Here is their site- [link]

What it is is an education center, and they offer opportunities to be in the wild with an imprinted wolf, meaning they are used to humans. The walks are and hour and a half, and you have multiple chances for amazing photography. There are no chains, collars, leashes, fences, or anything between you and the wolves.

The wolves were acquired through rescue, or were adopted from the wild if their mother was killed by hunters. They all live together as a pack, with Shelly and Casey as the Alpha's.

Same here. I don't have the schooling ability needed though. I go and see Shelly and Casey every year, we are close friends. But if you ever have a chance, you should definitely go, you'll never regret it.

That's great that you might go. Hopefully, you will get to see the pups when they grow up. I should have some pictures when I get back, but I won't be leaving for a while. Maya, Tuk's sister, is a beautiful animal, but I don't think she's going to be around for much longer, which is why I'm going as soon as the foster dogs are gone.
